Campfirmation '03 by Emily Roy Ninth Grade, Smith Junior High School |

My name is Emily Roy, and this was my last year going to
Campfirmation as a camper. Of all the exciting years I’ve gone, this
year was my favorite. The
Wetter the Better
Our theme was “The Wetter the Better”. Every day, in our small
groups, we would read a Bible story that had to do with water. We would also
discuss ways to get out of our comfort zone to help and encourage others
because the more you do, the better. Just like the wetter the better. Thrills
and Adventures
Anyone who went to camp can never forget that it was full of fun!
One night, we had a water gun fight in the dark! We even got the hose out
and started to spray everyone! We were all excited when the ropes course
day came! In the morning, we
did the low ropes. We divided into four groups and each group was given an
obstacle that they would have to work out together in order to accomplish.
At first it seemed really impossible and I didn’t think we could do it.
Then we all started giving ideas and when we put them together and worked
as a team, I was amazed at what we could do and we completed it.
Nathan told us that every year we go up there, they give us the
hardest levels of obstacles there are. To me, that says a lot about Love
of Christ. Later on that afternoon, we got in our harnesses and started
jumping off trees! The high
ropes was a blast! If it weren’t for my Love of Christ friends cheering
me on, I probably wouldn’t have
accomplished the things I did. Camp can’t get any more fun than that! Drawing
Closer to God
The main reason we go to camp is to get closer to God. Every night
for worship, we took a field trip somewhere. This is a new thing, this
year, because we usually just stay at camp the whole time. The cool thing
about worship was Nathan would never tell us where we were going. The
first night we went to a lake. The bus parked and we hiked to a quiet
place, with a beautiful view of the sun setting on the lake. We were given
a splash sticker to put on our water bottle so whenever we looked at it,
we were reminded to encourage other people on the ropes course the next
day. Our next worship was a big surprise. We got to go out on a pontoon
boat! We all piled on and had
a great time talking and listening to the guitar. Nathan reminded us that
worship doesn’t always have to be in a church, with a pastor, but it can
also be just having a great time admiring all that God has made for us.
The last night of worship at camp is always very unique. It reflects on
our theme and everything we have done throughout the week. This year, we
drove two hours from our camp to the ocean! When we got there, everyone
was in awe. I couldn’t believe we were actually at the ocean. After a
few hours of playing in the water, we roasted Smores by a campfire and had
worship. Everyone brought beach towels to sit on, in the sand.
Once the sun went down, it was very pleasant listening to the
guitar and singing together, and hearing the waves crash to shore. Nathan
knows a friend who lives down where we were at Newport Beach, so he
invited him to come talk to us about our theme, “The Wetter the
Better”. Camp is a great way to learn more about God.
Although this was my last year as a camper, I can still look
forward to going again, as a J.C! (Jr. counselor) + + + |
