'Afraid! The Gospel of Mark'
March 5 4:00-5:10pm in the Center of Compassion

Ever wonder what it would be like to be there, in Galilee, and meet Jesus?  In this one-man play, Frank Runyeon tells the story in present tense, using every day language and involving audience members.  This event replaces Psalm 100 and Sunday night programs and is a required part of Confirmation instruction as we move into learning about the Passion Story during Lent.  Tickets are $8 for adults with no cost for youth and children.

SPRING RETREAT | April '05
By Jessica Murray
8th Grade, Combs Middle School

My Spring Retreat 2005 was fun and one of the best times of my life. It started out great when we arrived to Emmanuel Pines. We found our room and then headed up to the chapel to play a few games. We played the funniest and craziest games ever! I loved watching and playing musical couch because it was funny seeing everyone pile up on top of each other. It was hilarious!

Throughout this trip, I was able to make new friends and come closer and also reunite with old ones. The time we had with God (quiet time) was amazing. I loved going out into the cold, finding a quite place to myself, and reading the bible. When I opened the bible, I felt like God was present with me and kept me warm.

On Saturday, we had some wacky but awesome weather. In the morning it started to snow but it was more like hail. That surprised me! It did that for a little bit but then it quit and melted. Later on that afternoon, we went to the gift shop and many people bought these spiky rubber hats (that kept us entertained most of the day!). When I came out, it was actually snowing! It was all powdery and soft. Well, it only snowed for a little while and by the end of the day, it was all melted.

One time during one of our group times, N8 had us trace the smallest person in our group and add the characteristics that we wished we had since Jesus got to pick what he was going to be and look like before he came down to earth. Some of the things were a guitar (a good musician), a microphone (a good singing voice), money (a rich person), sideburns (Elvis impersonator), and heart (a loving person). During the small group discussions, we dug deep into who Jesus was and what he really went through for us. I learned many new things and grew even closer to God. I think the “7 Last Words of Christ” worship service, that the leaders and N8 did, was the thing that brought me even closer to God. I never stopped to think about how much Jesus really went through with all the pain and suffering just so one day we can be with God.

Sunday, was fun even though it was the last day on the retreat. We still played games and acted like it was a normal day until it was time for all of us to pack our stuff. We left after lunch and I was sad to leave and started to head home. I think I will always remember this retreat and never forget it.

“So through Christ we will surely be saved from God’s anger, because we have been made with God by the blood of Christ’s death”  – Romans 5: 9
